Powerful writing (though I do miss the parenthesis - sorry Bird) that reflects the end of life conversations I have had with my cancer patients. Like fortune cookie insights, their stories had lessons. The value did not arrive until I was given a terminal diagnosis.
I think we all live lifes/lies of quiet desperation as we each attempt to balance being employed and being happy... being our authentic self vs what society and family expect. Having spent a lifetime in healthcare and research, I feel I found a reasonable compromise.
What is unreasonable is how humans are warehoused once they can no longer work. That is a compromise I will not make. My last days will be spent enjoying nature from either a camping park or a ship's cabin. Quality > quantity.
